One with the ocean,
for generations ahead.
At Umios, the ocean makes our work possible. Our purpose, For the ocean, for life, reflects our commitment to respecting the natural resources it provides. We’re here to make sure the next generation can rely on a rich, bountiful ocean—just as we do today.
35.5%
of stocks classified as overfished
If unsustainable fishing continues, marine populations will not recover, and entire ocean ecosystems may be damaged beyond repair. The fish we depend on today may no longer be available in the future.M

56%
decline in marine life, 1970-2020
Overfishing, climate change, and pollution are rapidly eroding the ocean’s resources. When marine ecosystems fall out of balance, people and industries around the world face serious consequences for food supply and daily life.
150M
metric tons of plastic in our oceans
Marine plastic pollution is a real and urgent threat. It endangers wildlife, disrupts habitats, and works its way up the food chain to people. Reducing plastic use and improving waste management are essential steps to restoring ocean health.
Our response to an ocean in crisis
Sustainable fisheries management
For every marine resource Umios handles, we try to use scientific data and international assessments to identify the risk of resource depletion, and reflect those findings in our procurement policies. By 2030, our goal is to achieve a 100% confirmation rate of resource status for all seafood handled across the Group.
At the same time, we are conducting biodiversity risk assessments and practicing environmentally conscious aquaculture. These measures help keep our business activities sustainable while protecting biodiversity in marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

GSSI-certified seafood
We are strengthening our use of internationally accredited programs and promoting sustainable wild-capture fisheries and responsible aquaculture. In particular, we are increasing our handling of seafood certified by GSSI-recognized programs*, with a goal of ensuring that more than 15% of total sales across all products—including seafood and seafood-derived items—come from certified sources by 2030.
This approach reduces risks such as wild stock depletion, environmental degradation from aquaculture, and involvement in IUU fishing. And it gives consumers more confidence in the choices they make.
*Seafood certified under programs recognized by the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI), including MSC, ASC, BAP, MEL, and others.

Ecosystem conservation
We work with industry partners, NGOs, and local groups on coastal and marine restoration. Our teams conduct regular beach cleanups and support projects that restore coastal environments, including eelgrass beds and mangrove habitats. These efforts contribute to ecosystem recovery and protect vital ocean resources for the next generation.

Reducing marine plastic pollution
We treat fishing gear and plastic waste management as a supply-chain priority. By strengthening controls across suppliers and our own operations, we are working toward zero plastic discharge into the ocean.

Reducing food loss & waste
We reduce waste and food loss throughout the full product lifecycle. We also reduce the amount of plastic used in packaging materials and explore alternative materials that are easier to reuse and recycle.

Acting on climate change
We reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency, sustainable energy choices, and operational improvements. Our long-term goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Investing in our people
We build a workplace where diverse talent can thrive. By investing in the people who support our Group’s long-term growth, we foster an environment where everyone can develop their skills and benefit from a spirit of mutual respect.

Improving global nutrition
We are expanding our share of products that support balanced nutrition, including appropriate protein intake, reduced sodium, and healthier fats. These efforts help improve public health worldwide.

Upholding human rights
Respect for human rights is nonnegotiable. We are building systems across our operations and supplier network to prevent forced labor and other human rights abuses, and to ensure a responsible, transparent supply chain.

Protecting the planet, and our future on it
Climate change, marine debris, and food loss are serious issues. They are changing the food systems we all depend on.
Through responsible resource management, climate action, and a rights-respecting supply chain, Umios is committed to preserving the future of food culture—because protecting the ocean and the planet is essential to protecting our way of life.
We will keep working so the ocean we rely on today, and the resources it provides, can support generations to come.
