Umios Corporation has earned WELL Certification™ at the Gold level for its new Head Office (THE LINKPILLAR 1 SOUTH), to which it relocated on March 1, 2026. The certification is based on the WELL Building Standard™ version 2, which assesses employee health and well-being.
WELL Certification is an international certification system administered by the nonprofit International WELL Building Institute pbc™ (IWBI) that evaluates how buildings and office spaces support people’s health, comfort, and well-being. It involves a multifaceted review of 11 categories, including Air, Nourishment, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, and Mind, covering everything from design and construction to day-to-day operations and policies.
Umios had already earned LEED GOLD® certification for the same office in June 2026, recognizing its consideration for the global environment. With WELL Gold certification, the office has now gained international recognition for both its environmental performance and its support for the health of the people who work there.
The new Head Office was developed as part of workplace reforms designed to encourage employees to take on challenges and co-creation across departmental and organizational boundaries. With each employee’s physical and mental health as the starting point for creating the workplace, Umios has taken an integrated approach to office design and operations to address its priority issue (materiality) of “building a workplace environment where diverse talents can thrive with peace of mind.”
The following specific initiatives received particularly high marks during the certification review:
- • Incorporation of design elements and artwork that reflect Japanese and corporate culture
- • Creation of spaces with greenery and water features that provide a sense of connection to the richness of nature
- • Display of nutritional information and carbohydrate content at the in-house café
- • Verification of the safety of drinking and handwashing water through water quality testing, and provision of a full range of hygienic handwashing amenities
- • Maintenance of good air quality within the office premises through measurement of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and other substances
- • Provision of furniture that supports healthy posture, making it easier to maintain active habits
- • Availability of blankets and fans for loan to provide a comfortable working environment suited to individual thermal preferences
- • Measurement and evaluation of the acoustic environment, selection of audiovisual equipment with hearing health in mind, and provision of devices for loan
- • Creation of an environment where all employees can thrive with peace of mind, regardless of gender or position, through initiatives such as opening a mothers’ room, introducing a mentoring program, and encouraging employees to take childcare leave
Umios, which has identified “building a workplace environment where diverse talents can thrive with peace of mind” as a priority issue (materiality), will continue working to improve well-being throughout the Group and create a more supportive workplace.
