Umios’s New Head Office Earns LEED Gold® Certification

Umios Corporation has earned the prestigious LEED Gold® international green building certification for its new head office in THE LINKPILLAR 1 SOUTH, to which it relocated on March 1, 2026.

LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is one of the world’s most widely used international systems for assessing buildings that give consideration to people and the environment, otherwise known as “green buildings”. It was developed and is administered by the nonprofit U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED certification is globally recognized as a symbol of sustainability achievement. It demonstrates that a building is safe for people and the environment, while showing consideration for the global environment through waste reduction, water conservation, and energy efficiency. Umios Corporation earned LEED Gold® certification under ID+C (Interior Design and Construction), one of five LEED v4 rating systems.

As part of workplace reforms designed to generate collaboration and co-creation across departmental and organizational boundaries, planning for the new Head Office focused on “action for climate change” and “contributing to a recycling-oriented society,” two priority issues (materiality) under the sustainability strategy. The interior was designed and constructed to enable ways of working that encourage employees to take on challenges and co-create, building a rewarding work environment where every employee can experience sustainability in their daily activities. These efforts were recognized with LEED Gold® certification.

The following specific initiatives received particularly high marks during the certification review:

  • • Selection of a building that uses highly water-efficient plumbing fixtures and 100% reclaimed water for toilet flushing
  • • Use of refrigerants with low global warming potential in air-conditioning equipment
  • • Reduction of annual energy use by 8.8% compared with the LEED baseline
  • • Reuse of 62.5% of existing components, including ceilings, floors, and walls, to reduce future waste
  • • Development and implementation of indoor air quality management plans during construction and before occupancy
  • • Leveraging of the building’s direct connection to Takanawa Gateway Station to curb CO2 emissions by encouraging the use of public transportation
  • • Provision of high-quality views that connect occupants with the outside world
  • • Use of biophilic design incorporating natural elements into the indoor environment to reduce stress and foster creativity

Umios, which has identified “action for climate change” as a priority issue (materiality), will continue fostering even greater environmental awareness throughout the Group.
